Portrait of death and disconnection from family as the punishment for bad parenting. Yawnsobwhimperboohoo.

I guess you need to have a Jewish mother to catch the essence. Dianna shows what it takes to take the responsibility of an ailing patient, total responsibility, and setting your own life asides. Dustin Hoffman is great as always. We need more movies like this!! Good work!

Movie captures and exudes the the depth of the relationships that so many can’t see while they live in their wake. Emotional. Powerful. Real. W

Great flick, not for everyone. Definitely can pulls on personal experiences, and the acting is great. Films like this give me hope in the way art can be taken

Well written, acted, and directed but a sad story of a dysfunctional family. Some poignant moments and a few humorous ones.

ouch. wish I could get the time and rental fee back on “As they made us” written and directed by Mayim Bialik. This meandering piece is neither thought provoking or original in it’s presentation and can be downright confusing which time period they are portraying (title cards might have added some excitement). This is basically just 2 hours of watching Dustin Hoffman die and kids feeling acting as victims for their own behaviors. The plot felt forced into any old dying parent trope with self-reflection set in a jewish family backdrop (again…super blatant throughout). IMHO, don’t waste your time.
  • Most dissappointing movie ever - DO NOT waste time watching

WIth the cast, and a pretty decent trailer, level of dissappointment with this movie was extreme. How such great actors could be reduced to such horrifically bad performances is hard to imagine. Plot so absurd surprising that Woody Allen did not have a hand in it. Hard to even list the constituencies it is insulting to because of its appalling inaccuracy - elderly, caregivers, dementia sufferers, Jews, ....... If there is some parallel universe where such stiff, contrived, impossible people and events exist, I sure don't want to visit. This is crazier science fiction than the Matrix (and not nearly as funny). Really, dont be sucked in by good reviews or the cast. This is literally the worst, most dissappointing movie I have seen in my relatively long life.
  • Worth watching!

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. So authentic to a dysfunctional family and how to overcome poor choices!
