Description

Two high school boys grapple with their own humanity in a world where people are serviced by androids distinguished from their masters only by the halo-like rings above their heads. Public mores, enforced by the shadowy Robot Ethics Committee, dictate that androids be treated like appliances, and those who empathize with their robots are branded as "android-holics." Rikuo and his childhood pal Masaki find their assumptions about androids radically challenged when they come across Time of EVE, a cafe where androids and people are treated as equals. Liberated from the strictures of the Ethics Committee, Masaki and Rikuo must confront old wounds of betrayal and grief, and are faced with decisions that put their friendship and families on the line. Official selection at the Pusan International Film Festival 2011, New York International Children's Film Festival 2011, and Japan Media Arts Festival 2010.

  • Don't Bother Renting—BUY!

I'm always transfixed by this gorgeous film and watch it over and over, as there are so many nuances and subtle details that are easily missed with a single viewing. My suggestion, if you're a dedicated anime-obsessive, as I've been since "Akira" and "Angel Egg" (yes, I'm THAT old), is to purchase, not rent, this absolute gem. I never thought that machines could evoke such feels, but then again, a beautiful muscle car gets me choked-up every time. haha. The artwork, backgrounds, detail, and most importantly, the story are perfection, and I actually don't mind the dubs since the actors do such a fantastic job; I'm an anime purist, and generally only appreciate original Japanese versions, as there seems to be much passion, realism and authenticity sacrificed when dubbed. Alternatively, one is so preoccupied when reading subs, a lot of micro-expressions and action can be missed. You need this in your collection. Trust me.
  • OK film

The animation was good but in a way that tried to look a lot like a normal film, shot with different lenses and zooming out and in, and panning. A little bit frustrating that it was hard to follow, the subtitles were a bit fast in some instances and there were some mistakes. The story is easy to get into, but difficult to follow, not told in an easy to understand way. It was mainly about how Japanese treat people who are different. I didn’t enjoy the film very much.
  • Good, but not exciting

That said, the A.I. and robots subject is not new to me, Maybe if you are new to this stuff, it will be more exciting for you.

I was hesitant to watch this film, but I decided to watch it anyway, and let me tell you, it's a really good film. I recommend it. I can't wait till the dub is actually released, even though most anime nerds prefer subs.

You can really feel the time, planning, and passion the animators put into this film. Yes, the characters look pretty average, but the backgrounds and lighting is the best I have ever seen. The choice of camera angles and cuts are interesting. And the use of music to heighten the story is superb. The story itself isn't the greatest, or very well thought out, but that is a very minor flaw in this amazing film. I rented it, then purchased it, and have watched it once a week since.

I'm a huge fan of the series. Saw the "webisodes" as they came out thanks to Crunchyroll. This is by far the best version of the series. They've added a lot of new scenes that really expand the universe of Time of Eve a lot. And I mean A LOT! If you're mildly interested, buy this. If you've already seen the show, you really must buy this! Can't wait for a second season *fingers crossed*

It is really good to see that I can buy this movie from iTunes store, and I think this is the best way for fans of the movie to buy it in US. The image and music of this animation are really great, and also I really like the content of it, it makes me feel a lot of warm! It will be better if you can provide the option of buying HD movie. There are some errors in the subtitles, such as an extra 'b' appears in it. And also, the subtitle is always on, it cannot be turned off. But in general, the subtitle is good enough. I like to see these movies with the original Japanese audio so it is really good to see that the subtitles are provided. This is really a great movie, I wish I can buy some other good Japan anime movies in iTunes store in the future.

I was a huge fan of the original series (available for free stream from crunchy roll). This movie version contains additional background scenes and all of the OVA content, some of which has not been available subtitled prior to now. Highly recommended, whether you saw the originals or not!
